Rig compatibility is the other check. Direct drive units are heavier than belt or gear alternatives, and the increased torque puts greater stress on the mounting point. A solid aluminum or steel profile rig handles this well. A lightweight plastic or folding rig may flex under load, which undermines the precision you are paying for.
