Choose How You Want to Race

Academy is five businesses that all point at the same thing: putting people in a racing simulator. Which one you need depends on what you actually want to do, so this page routes rather than repeats. The detail lives on each site.

What do you want to do?

  • Drive a simulator — book an hour at our Tampa lounge. Academy Lounge
  • Bring simulators to an event — staffed, branded and delivered across Florida. Academy Events
  • Buy a simulator — five builds, from a first real direct drive to a motion flagship. Academy Builds
  • Driver education and teen safety — programs for schools and districts. Academy Driver
  • Senior and community programs — senior living, 55+ and retirement communities. Academy for Seniors

Or choose by the racing itself

The same nine disciplines run across every part of Academy. Each one wants a different setup, and each links to whichever part of the business you need.

GT3

Production-based racing cars with traction control, ABS and paddle shift. The most forgiving place to start and the format we recommend most often for people who have never done this.

Formula and open-wheel

Very little weight, a great deal of aerodynamic grip and in most classes no traction control. The steepest learning curve we offer, and the one enthusiasts ask for by name.

Stock car and oval

Heavy, powerful cars with very little aerodynamic help, racing inches apart. The easiest discipline to explain to somebody who does not follow motorsport, which is why it works so well with a broad audience.

Endurance and prototype

Multi-class racing, long stints and team relays. The only format that produces genuine group competition rather than individual lap times.

Drift

Judged on angle and commitment rather than lap time. The only format that performs for the room rather than just the person in the seat, which makes it the best one to watch.

Rally

One car against the clock on loose surfaces, working from a co-driver calling the road ahead. Nothing else feels like it.

Classic and historic

Older machinery with few or no electronic aids, narrow tires and a gearbox you have to operate properly. Slower than a modern GT3 car and considerably harder to drive well.

Manual and H-pattern

Four of our eight rigs have a six-speed H-pattern shifter and a clutch pedal, including the flagship Motion GT. If you drive a manual road car, this is the format that uses that skill.

Preparing for a real track day?

If you already drive on track, the useful part of a simulator is arriving at a circuit already knowing which way it goes. Our track guides cover what each one asks of a driver.
