A Perfect Weekend at Mid-OhioEnzo Fittipaldi just had the kind of weekend every racing driver dreams about. At the Indy NXT doubleheader at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, he started on pole, led every lap of race two, and swept both races to take the points lead. Thirty laps of a 13-turn road course, wire to wire, more than twelve seconds clear of his nearest competitor.
That's not luck. That's preparation.
Road Courses Punish the UnpreparedMid-Ohio is one of the more demanding circuits on the Indy NXT calendar. It's a natural-terrain road course with significant elevation change, blind crests, and corners that punish early entries. You can't muscle your way around it. You have to learn it, understand the braking zones, and be consistent lap after lap.
That kind of track knowledge takes repetition. Sim racing is one of the most effective ways to build it. Professional drivers across IndyCar, F1, and endurance racing use simulators to learn new circuits before they ever arrive at the track. The mental map you build in a sim translates directly to confidence on the real thing.
What "Textbook" Really MeansWhen a driver or team describes a race as textbook execution, they're talking about doing the right thing at the right moment, every single time, under pressure. Clean laps. No wasted corners. Consistent braking points. The ability to manage a gap rather than just go flat out and hope.
That's a skill set. And it's trainable.
At Academy Sim Racing in Tampa, a lot of what we focus on is exactly this: building the habits that make a driver consistent. That applies to someone chasing a real racing license just as much as it applies to someone who wants to improve at iRacing or simply understand why professional drivers make the choices they do.
A Cool Place to Get Serious About RacingTampa summers are not kind. If you're looking for something genuinely fun to do indoors, away from the heat and the afternoon storms, the lounge at Academy is worth knowing about. It's fully air-conditioned, located at 1421 Massaro Blvd, and set up with rigs that range from single-screen setups for newcomers to a full-motion simulator that changes the experience entirely.
You don't need any experience to walk in. The rigs are accessible, and the environment isn't intimidating. That said, if you do want structured instruction, coaching and classes are available for drivers who want to get serious.
The lounge draws people from across the Tampa Bay area, including Riverview and Brandon, and honestly most of them aren't sim racers when they walk in the door. They're just looking for something different to do. The racing part turns out to be the hook.

It's worth noting that Enzo carries one of motorsport's most storied last names. His grandfather Emerson won two Formula 1 world championships. The family legacy in racing is real. But legacy only gets you so far. What Enzo demonstrated at Mid-Ohio was earned through work.
Sim racing has been part of how the current generation of professional drivers develops faster than any generation before them. The tools exist now that simply weren't available fifteen or twenty years ago. Whether you're watching Indy NXT or following the IndyCar championship, you're watching drivers who have put serious hours into simulators as part of their training.
If the Mid-Ohio sweep has you curious about what real racecraft looks like up close, or if you just want a fun, air-conditioned afternoon in Tampa with something more engaging than a movie, Academy Sim Racing is worth a visit.
Book a session or ask about what we offer at Academy Sim Racing. Walk-ins are welcome, and the team is happy to answer questions about coaching, private events, or custom builds.
