iRacing Is Raising Its Subscription PriceIf you've been an iRacing subscriber for a while, you may have already seen the news: iRacing is increasing its subscription prices. For a platform that's been the gold standard in online sim racing for years, it's not exactly a shock, but it's still a real change in the math for a lot of drivers.
Whether you're a casual weekend racer or someone who logs serious seat time, a price hike makes you think about what you're actually getting for your money. And it's worth thinking through honestly.
What iRacing Offers and Why People Pay For ItiRacing built its reputation on laser-scanned tracks, serious physics, and a structured competitive ladder that mirrors real motorsport closer than almost anything else in the sim space. The tire model, the damage model, the license progression system. It's all there for a reason, and serious sim racers genuinely value it.
But it does come with a cost. Beyond the subscription itself, cars and tracks are sold separately. For someone just getting into sim racing, the total spend can add up faster than expected. The price increase makes that entry point a little steeper.
This Is Actually a Good Time to Try Before You CommitIf you've been on the fence about subscribing, or if you're already a subscriber wondering whether to keep paying, there's a smarter way to approach it: get some real seat time first and see how much you actually enjoy it.
That's one of the reasons the lounge at Academy Sim Racing exists. We run iRacing and other top-tier sim titles on our rigs, including a full-motion simulator and a triple-monitor setup that genuinely changes how you experience a virtual lap. You can come in, drive for a session, and figure out whether sim racing is something you want to invest in at home, or whether dropping in here a few times a month makes more sense for your budget.
A lot of people in the Tampa Bay area are discovering that a lounge session scratches the itch without the overhead of a full home setup and a subscription. For others, it confirms that they want to go all-in, and then we can talk about coaching and custom builds too.
The Upside of Driving at a Lounge InsteadRunning a competitive sim rig at home costs money. The PC, the wheel, the pedals, the seat, the monitors, the subscription, the content. It adds up fast. A session at Academy is a fraction of that, and the hardware here is already dialed in.
It's also a good way to spend a few hours in Tampa without dealing with the heat. The lounge is fully air-conditioned, which, if you've spent a Florida summer afternoon looking for something to do indoors, you already know matters. Come in, cool off, and actually do something instead of just browsing your phone in a mall.
We're at 1421 Massaro Blvd, easy to get to from Riverview and Brandon, and walk-ins are welcome when rigs are available.
If You're Already a Serious iRacerThe price increase stings a little more if you're already deep into the platform, with a full content library and a race license you've worked to build. For those drivers, the value equation is different. You're probably staying subscribed regardless.
But if you want to actually improve your lap times and race craft, that's where coaching makes a real difference. Academy offers structured instruction built around the same kind of disciplined, methodical approach you'd find in serious motorsport training. Faster is almost always a technique problem, not a hardware problem, and a few sessions with a coach can do more than months of solo lapping.
Prices going up anywhere in the hobby is a good prompt to take a look at what's actually available to you locally. We'd rather you come in, drive a few laps, and decide for yourself than just take our word for it.
Book a session or reach out to the Academy Sim Racing team and we'll help you figure out the right fit, whether that's a casual lounge visit, a coached session, or something for a group.
